Øxygen: a private desktop chat app for Ollama
What they built
Øxygen is a desktop chat app for Ollama with no account, no cloud and no telemetry. The model runs on your hardware, and the database is a file in your home directory.
Optional features include answers from files and web with citations, local Whisper voice input (the recording is deleted after transcription), local Stable Diffusion images, nine interface languages and accessibility settings.
Setup
- Linux (AppImage/.deb), macOS (universal .dmg), Windows (.exe)
- Required: Ollama with llama3.2
- Optional models: gemma3:1b, nomic-embed-text, llava, deepseek-r1:8b
Gotchas
- Release bundles are unsigned, so macOS and Windows SmartScreen will warn; verify with SHA256SUMS.txt
“Your AI. Your machine. Your rules.”— Øxygen manifesto
